Chasing the Light

At sunset, the sky gives over to an array of colors, and capturing them can be a race against time and changing weather. In the best of conditions, the low-angled light reflects off the clouds and starts the drama. But wait. Ten to fifteen minutes after the sun drops below the horizon, the real show begins. The clouds, illuminated from below, are edged with light, and the most intense colors appear. Finally, as they fade, the waning light offers gentler tones. The curtain comes down, and the next act follows — the night sky with the stars, the moon and the planets.
